Stepping Into the Story: Exploring Nature and Emotions Through Storytelling at New Horizon High School

StoryVerse Land visited New Horizon High School, Kolkata and we explored the colourful world of nature together.

Stories hold a very special place in every child’s life. Stories are not only meant to be read, but also meant to be experienced. When children listen, imagine, and see themselves within a story, it indeed carries a deeper meaning in their lives.

StoryVerse Land was able to create such an experience during a recent storytelling session at New Horizon High School, where students participated in an engaging literary event organised by StoryVerse Land.

 An Interactive Storytelling Experience

On 14 January 2026, a renowned storyteller Shreya Biswas opened a magical door in New Horizon High School, to provide a learning experience about the world outside their window – through a story. During her storytelling session – where she read Ben Finds A Colourful Friend - the children listened and engaged with Shreya. The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves as they immersed themselves in the story, about nature and our feelings.

 Magic of storytelling

The primary focus of the session was on developing imagination and building listening and communication skills of children. The story on Ben Finds A Colourful Friend speaks about responsibility, feelings, and curiosity.

As the story unfolded, students followed Ben’s journey with excitement, asking questions, and sharing their observations. Beyond the subtext of responsibility and emotion, this story explores the importance of natural habitats and how to treat wildlife. By the end of the session, the children didn’t just listen to stories; they gained knowledge on habitats and chameleons.

 Encouraging Reading Through Personalised Books

Distributing personalised storybooks to students

As part of the initiative, StoryVerse Land distributed free personalised books to top performances for classes nursery, 1, 2, and 3.Personalised books help children see their reflections in stories, creating an emotional bond with reading. This connection increases motivation, builds confidence, and encourages a long-term interest in books, both inside and beyond the classroom.

Sometimes, all it takes is one story, told at the right moment, to spark the imagination and encourage early reading.
