A Colourful Children’s Day: How Our Storytelling Session Brought Little Imaginations to Life

Children need a space to imagine and dream. Allowing them to spend a lovely Saturday afternoon building core memories with their parents was our goal for our very first storytelling session – StoryVerse Magical Storytime. We believe we delivered a heartwarming session that the children will remember for a while!

We all gathered online on 15 November, with one of our beloved authors, Sonali Rasal, for this virtual storytelling session. Families from across India joined us for an hour of colour and curiosity, where we learnt about the magic of nature with the little ones.

Sonali took us on a journey with Ben and His Colourful Friend to showcase how amazing nature is and what friendship and responsibility look like in practice.

A Story That Sparked Small Nuggets of Discoveries

As Sonali read the book Ben and His Colourful Friend, taking us all on a journey on how Ben learns to take care of the baby chameleon he names Camo, the children listened in quiet excitement. We were all enthralled as Ben and Camo’s story unfurled, showcasing a lovely friendship while weaving in lessons on nature and emotion into the session.

Through Sonali’s warm narration, the children learned how chameleons express their feelings through colour: bright yellow for happiness, darker shades for stress or fear and other unique features of the chameleons.

The story gently introduced children to the beauty of wildlife, the importance of natural habitats, and the idea that our feelings show up in different colours too. As Ben says so simply, “Our colours are our feelings.”

When Learning Meets Imagination

One of the children’s favourite moments was when Camo started changing colours to show his feelings. It helped the children see that we all have different ways of expressing ourselves, and we can do so in a safe environment!

The final goodbye, when Ben returns Camo to the woods where he truly belongs, reminds the children that loving something sometimes means letting it go back to where it thrives.

Chatting with the Little Ones

After the reading, Sonali spent time talking with the children, asking about their lives, their favourite animals, their best friends, and all the little moments that make childhood magical.

You could hear the excitement they had to share with us what they thought about lizards and colours, and we saw the sparkle in their eyes as they spoke. That brought a smile to our faces, knowing that we inspired some spark in these children.

It was warm, honest, and exactly the kind of connection we hope to build through every StoryVerse Land event.

Filling Our Hearts With Messages

What truly made our Children's Day special were the messages we received afterwards.

Some of the parents shared with us how much they appreciated the way the book connects Camo’s changing colours with human emotions, helping them to speak to their children when it came to managing emotions, big or small.

One parent shared how her daughter was excited to constantly look at bushes in hopes of finding her own Camo. The daughter was so fascinated with chameleons and lizards that she drew a gorgeous lizard for her school project, and her parent shared the drawing with us after the session.

These are the moments we always hope to inspire in young ones, to dream and imagine what life could bring them.

Another parent had purchased the book before the session and told us how excited their little one was to see their own name and picture in the personalised storybook. Making that book personally theirs.

At StoryVerse Land, every heartwarming message, every smile, every spark of imagination, and every “That’s me!” moment make everything we create worth it.

Moments to Remember

With many waves and multiple “byeeeeeee”s from the kids before they logged off, the team wrapped up the online sessions with smiles on our faces. Bringing smiles to the children’s faces on their special day creates warm, fuzzy feelings in us, too. Reminding us, we were once dreamers like them.

We look forward to more fantastic storytelling sessions with little ones from all over the world!
